Bluebonnet Season Back Roads
Late March through April, the farm roads around Carmine, Round Top, and Warrenton turn blue. Ask us for our favorite loop.
One of North America's most colorful birds — right off the porch.
Reindeer Ranch is genuinely known for its painted buntings — the dazzling, almost unreal-looking songbird that draws birders to this part of Texas each spring and summer. Males look hand-painted in blue, red, and green; once you've seen one, you'll spend the rest of the trip hoping for another.
Pair them with the deer, jackrabbits, wild turkeys, and chickadees that move across the property and you've got world-class wildlife watching without leaving the ranch. Bring binoculars and a coffee; the porch does the rest.
From the Ranch
Early morning is best. Keep a feeder line of sight from the porch and stay still — buntings are shy but regular here from roughly April through summer.
